Responsible Diver Training Program | Oceanwatch Australia

Responsible Diver Training Program

The OceanWatch Responsible Diver Program is a formal training and assessment for the NSW Abalone and Sea Urchin and Turban Shell Fisheries.

OceanWatch Australia has worked closely with the Abalone Association NSW to develop a voluntary Environmental Code of Practice for the NSW Abalone, and Sea Urchin and Turban Shell (SUTS) Fisheries. The Code of Practice has been extended into the Responsible Diver Training Program for the NSW SUTS and Abalone divers.
The responsible diver training program is aimed at improving knowledge, awareness and professionalism of the sector,  going above and beyond requirements prescribed by state, national and international regulations.
The program covers topics relating to industry best practice, fisheries management, environment and sustainability, social licence, cultural fishing, biosecurity and disease, TEP species interactions, and WHS.
