Each winter, more than 50,000 humpback whales travel along Australia’s east coast. It is an incredible conservation success story, but one that also brings unique challenges for the fishers working these waters every day.
Through the Whale Entanglement Mitigation Program, professional fishers in New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania are partnering with OceanWatch Australia to test and adopt practical solutions that protect both migrating whales and the people whose livelihoods depend on the ocean.
