Advancing cultural burning as a nature-based solution for a fire-prepared Bateman's Bay.
OceanWatch Australia is working with partners in the Batemans Bay region to build community understanding, trust, and evidence around the role of cultural burning in protecting coastal landscapes, aquatic habitats, and local communities from future bushfire risk.
The project forms part of the national Nature-led Resilience: Safeguarding Regions from Fire, Flood and Climate Risks Initiative, delivered through NRM Regions Australia with support from the Minderoo Foundation. The national program is supporting nature-based solutions that reduce landscape-level fire, flood and climate risk while delivering benefits for people and nature.
Stay tuned for more updates on the project as it progresses!
