Tide to Table- Queensland

This project runs from 2011- 2013 across coastal Queensland with an emphasis on the coastal hotspot of Moreton Bay, Townsville and Bundaberg. Working on the premise that healthy and diverse ecosystems equal more productivity, the project will offer devolved grant funding to work on water quality projects  that drain to Fish Habitat areas of Moreton Bay (click here for grant details) . A number of other onground projects will also be funded following recommendations of a state wide steering committee.

Along with onground action the project will include;

1. Connectivity tours – exploring links in the landscape and impacts of management upstream on local seafood industry. Connectivity tours utilise speakers with expertise in fisheries related topics and provide opportunities for learning, networking and forming partnership approaches to implementing projects.

3. Aboriginal Cultural Heritage onground projects around coastal sites of significance.

4. Attending Seafood festivals, community events, and environment celebration days (such as World Wetlands Day) – taking the opportunity to raise wider community awareness and engage new participants.

5. Capacity building workshops – targeting local govt on topics such as fish passage, water sensitive urban design and coastal rehab practices, to build skill bases.

6. GEOCACHE initiatives – educational orienteering popular with youth groups such as the Police Citizen Youth Club (PCYC).
